I hope it didn&#39;t hurt the <a href=\"http:\/\/growlermag.com\/the-government-shutdown-and-its-effect-on-beer\/\" target=\"_self\">brewers<\/a>, craft distillers and <a href=\"http:\/\/spiritsjournal.klwines.com\/klwinescom-spirits-blog\/2013\/10\/11\/how-the-government-shutdown-is-fucking-us.html\" target=\"_self\">retailers<\/a> of our country too badly;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theday.com\/article\/20130918\/NWS04\/130919565\/1047#.UjoIqjPoLTt.twitter\" target=\"_self\">what it looks like when a Champagne truck overturns<\/a>. Save the Widow!<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/blogs\/the_vault\/2013\/09\/27\/drunken_women_1795_print_catalogs_eight_kinds_of_drunken_ladies.html?wpisrc=obinsite\" target=\"_self\">eight types of drunken ladies<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/czelticgirl\/status\/370019616258396160\" target=\"_self\">why kids shouldn&#39;t drink<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>I just ran across <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waitrose.com\/content\/waitrose\/en\/home\/recipes\/recipe_directory\/h\/heston_s_dry_ice_and_whisky_ice_cream.html\" target=\"_self\">this recipe for dry-ice and whiskey ice cream<\/a>. Wow;<\/li>\n<li>the <em>NYT<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/10\/02\/dining\/go-deeper-into-mexico-with-mezcal.html?hpw&amp;_r=4&amp;\" target=\"_self\">checks out mezcal<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>and tells us how <a href=\"http:\/\/intransit.blogs.nytimes.com\/2013\/08\/16\/hotel-drinking-gets-specialized\/?src=recg&amp;_r=0\" target=\"_self\">hotels are upping their cocktailian game<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/10\/16\/dining\/simple-syrup-can-add-more-than-sweetness-to-the-mix.html\" target=\"_self\">suggests some alternative simple syrups<\/a> (warning: autoplaying video.) 2:1 Demerara simple syrup is amazingly good and elevates most drinks, I&#39;d say;<\/li>\n<li>&quot;<a href=\"http:\/\/teleport-city.com\/2013\/10\/08\/yes-we-have-no-pappy\/\" target=\"_self\">Yes, We Have No Pappy<\/a>.&quot; <em>Teleport City<\/em> suggests some alternatives to the trendchasers;<\/li>\n<li>and as a matter of fact, even fewer people have Pappy, after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.courier-journal.com\/article\/20131016\/BUSINESS\/310160119\" target=\"_self\">65 cases were stolen from the Buffalo Trace distillery<\/a> in an apparent inside job;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.adashofbitters.com\/\" target=\"_self\">Michael Dietsch<\/a> gives us a good primer on <a href=\"http:\/\/drinks.seriouseats.com\/2013\/10\/whiskey-glossary-bourbon-terms-you-should-know-cocktail-101-sour-mash-straight-broubon-high-rye.html\" target=\"_self\">bourbon terms you should know<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>and profiles <a href=\"http:\/\/drinks.seriouseats.com\/2013\/10\/great-cocktail-bitters-brands-hella-bitter-scrappys-urban-moonshine.html?ref=title\" target=\"_self\">three smaller bitters producers<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>&#8230;and he&#39;s announced&#0160;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.adashofbitters.com\/2013\/09\/03\/announcing-shrubs-drinking-vinegar\/\" target=\"_self\">a fantastic-looking book on shrubs<\/a>! Congratulations!<\/li>\n<li>Chuck Cowdery <a href=\"http:\/\/chuckcowdery.blogspot.com\/2013\/10\/new-and-improved-map-of-kentucky.html\" target=\"_self\">maps the distilleries of Kentucky<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>and he&#39;s <a href=\"http:\/\/chuckcowdery.blogspot.com\/2013\/09\/chuck-cowdery-mint-julep-tour-update.html\" target=\"_self\">planning a tour<\/a> where you can visit them, the wonderful Oscar Getz Museum of Whiskey History, a leading still producer, a big cooperage, and more. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mintjuleptours.com\/custdocs\/chuck%20cowdery%20flyer%20updated.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"(.PDF link.)\">Looks like a fantastic time<\/a>;&#0160;<\/li>\n<li>on the other hand,&#0160;<a href=\"http:\/\/sfist.com\/2013\/10\/07\/uh_oh_introducing_monsieur_the_robo.php\" target=\"_self\">Monsieur the robot bartender<\/a> doesn&#39;t look that great;<\/li>\n<li><em>Gothamist<\/em> declares that <a href=\"http:\/\/gothamist.com\/2013\/10\/05\/the_aviation_cocktail.php\" target=\"_self\">the Aviation is the only blue cocktail you should ever order<\/a>.
