So cool.)<\/small><\/p>\n<p>Some things that have crossed my path on the Internets lately:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I neglected to link to <a href=\"http:\/\/eatocracy.cnn.com\/2012\/09\/20\/make-it-a-double-its-national-rum-punch-day-and-national-punch-day\/\" target=\"_self\">my Eatocracy writeup on National Punch Day\/National Rum Punch Day<\/a> earlier, so here you go;<\/li>\n<li><em>Modern Drunkard<\/em> has&#0160;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.drunkard.com\/issues\/57\/57-punch-drunk-wondrich.html\" target=\"_self\">a nice interview with David Wondrich<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Drink Spirits <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drinkspirits.com\/events\/bar-convent-berlin\/\" target=\"_self\">covers Bar Convent Berlin<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>the <a href=\"http:\/\/loisaidanest.com\/2012\/03\/19\/the-quest-for-the-nick-and-nora-cocktail-glass\/\" target=\"_self\">elusive<\/a>&#0160;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wordsmithingpantagruel.com\/2011\/12\/verified-current-where-to-buy-nick.html\" target=\"_self\">Nick &amp; Nora<\/a> cocktail glass&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tabletopstyle.com\/Classic-Cocktail-Glasses-s\/212.htm\" target=\"_self\">found<\/a>! Very very tempted to get a slew of these. If I only had the space;<\/li>\n<li>As the title notes, fall has fallen indeed, and <em>Imbibe<\/em> offers up a delicious-looking, appropriately autumnal drink in the <a href=\"http:\/\/imbibemagazine.com\/Maple-Sangaree-Recipe\" target=\"_self\">Maple Sangaree<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>and the <em>NYT<\/em> alerts us to <a href=\"http:\/\/6thfloor.blogs.nytimes.com\/2012\/10\/23\/a-drink-for-october-that-isnt-pumpkin-ale\/\" target=\"_self\">a pumpkin-chai drink<\/a>&#0160;that sounds good too;<\/li>\n<li>and Serious Drinks preps for Halloween by <a href=\"http:\/\/drinks.seriouseats.com\/2012\/10\/which-booze-to-drink-with-halloween-candy-bourbon-rum-chocolate-pairings.html?ref=pop_drinks\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Cruzan Black Strap with Hershey&#39;s? That&#39;s a new one.\">pairing booze with candy<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>also over at Serious Drinks, <a href=\"http:\/\/adashofbitters.com\/\" target=\"_self\">Michael Dietsch<\/a> gives us a superlative&#0160;<a href=\"http:\/\/drinks.seriouseats.com\/2012\/10\/guide-to-rye-whiskey-cocktail-101-basics-what-is-rye-how-is-it-made-brands.html?ref=title\" target=\"_self\">guide to rye<\/a>. Pay special attention to his descriptions of the various LDI\/MGP ryes made in Lawrenceburg, Indiana &#8212; an undercovered bit of information that most consumers don&#39;t know about;<\/li>\n<li>Rosie Schaap gives her <a href=\"http:\/\/6thfloor.blogs.nytimes.com\/2012\/10\/10\/manhattans-most-mourned-bars\/?smid=fb-share\" target=\"_self\">list of the ten now-closed bars in Manhattan she misses the most<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>and says <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/10\/07\/magazine\/make-mine-manhattan.html\" target=\"_self\">there are no rules for the Manhattan<\/a> (yes, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seriouseats.com\/recipes\/2012\/10\/beloveds-the-henry-manhattan-cocktail-variation-recipe.html\" target=\"_self\">variations<\/a> are fun. But I will insist on the presence of bitters, with ironclad inflexibility);<\/li>\n<li>the <em>Daily News<\/em> gives us an interesting, well-thought-out list of<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/life-style\/eats\/top-10-reading-bars-new-york-city-article-1.1190510\" target=\"_self\"> the best reading bars in New York<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>CLASS Magazine alerts us to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.diffordsguide.com\/class-magazine\/read-online\/en\/2012-10-23\/page-3\/new-distillery\" target=\"_self\" title=\"(warning: autoplaying video.)\">new distillery opening in the City of London<\/a>!;<\/li>\n<li>Go <a href=\"http:\/\/citysip.com\/?p=6859\" target=\"_self\">see your favorite booze-book authors<\/a> at Amor Y Amargo;<\/li>\n<li>Both <a href=\"http:\/\/chuckcowdery.blogspot.com\/2012\/10\/jack-daniels-and-jim-beam-pile-onto.html\" target=\"_self\">Jim Beam and Jack Daniel&#39;s have recently released white whiskeys<\/a>, or rather spirits&#8230;and Chuck Cowdery is on the case, noting that the Jack Daniel&#39;s Tennessee Rye calls itself a &quot;neutral spirit&quot; despite not meeting the TTB&#39;s definition (which requires distillation at &gt; 190\u00b0 proof\/95% abv.) But because it hasn&#39;t touched wood, it can&#39;t be called a &quot;whiskey&quot;, also per the TTB. He <a href=\"http:\/\/chuckcowdery.blogspot.com\/2012\/10\/jack-daniels-and-ttb-redefine-neutral.html\" target=\"_self\">hears from Jack Daniel&#39;s<\/a> &#8212; which doesn&#39;t shed much light on it; why would you want to sell something as &quot;neutral spirit&quot; if you&#39;re not forced to label it as such? &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/chuckcowdery.blogspot.com\/2012\/10\/ttb-says-jack-daniels-unaged-rye-isnt.html\" target=\"_self\">and from the Feds, who point out<\/a> that it&#39;s properly classified as &quot;a distilled spirits specialty product&quot; or &quot;spirits distilled from grain.&quot; Will the Not-So-Old No. 7 have to change its label? Or you could <a href=\"http:\/\/newyork.grubstreet.com\/2012\/10\/most-expensive-cocktail-in-the-world.html\" target=\"_blank\">use regular ingredients and spend $3<\/a> instead of $8,000;&#0160;<\/li>\n<li><em>Zagat<\/em> has released&#0160;<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.zagat.com\/2012\/10\/mixology-survey-results-are-live.html\" target=\"_self\">the results of their &quot;Mixology Survey&quot;<\/a>, crowdsourcing how people drink. (I was enthused to see gin enshrined as the #1 spirit&#8230;);&#0160;<\/li>\n<li><em>Zagat<\/em>&#0160;also runs down the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.zagat.com\/2012\/10\/10-most-annoying-cocktail-trends.html\" target=\"_self\">10 Most Annoying Cocktail Trends<\/a>, only some of which I agree with. What in the world&#39;s wrong with coupes? Or classic drinks? Or bars in expensive cities charging enough to pay the rent and their staff?;<\/li>\n<li>Did you know that there are bars in Brooklyn? With <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/10\/14\/magazine\/brooklyns-trailblazing-women-bartenders.html?partner=rss&amp;emc=rss\" target=\"_self\">lady bartenders<\/a>, even?;<\/li>\n<li>eBay has cracked down on alcohol sales, reportedly. Drink Spirits tells you <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drinkspirits.com\/other\/ebay-bans-alcohol-sales-whisky-auction-alternatives\" target=\"_self\">how else you can get booze online<\/a>. (The Masters of Malt <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masterofmalt.com\/samples\/\" target=\"_self\">Drinks by the Dram<\/a> program is fascinating: you can get 30ml bottles of whiskies you&#39;d like to try.)<\/li>\n<li>Chicagoist <a href=\"http:\/\/chicagoist.com\/2012\/10\/21\/bittercube_shows_us_how_to_make_bit.php#photo-1\" target=\"_self\">describes the Bittercube bitters-making workshop<\/a> at Tales this year;<\/li>\n<li>The <em>NYT<\/em>, on <a href=\"http:\/\/well.blogs.nytimes.com\/2012\/10\/18\/chemo-on-the-rocks\/?ref=health\" target=\"_self\">mixing drinking with chemo<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Grub Street reports that&#0160;<a href=\"http:\/\/newyork.grubstreet.com\/2012\/10\/david-kaplan-alex-day-out-at-demi-monde.html\" target=\"_self\">David Kaplan and Alex Day have backed out of Demi Monde<\/a>;&#0160;<\/li>\n<li>Have you made or drunk a <a href=\"http:\/\/seattletimes.com\/html\/restaurants\/2008837441_zres11lastword.html\" target=\"_self\">Last Word<\/a>? Do you read cocktail blogs or participate in the cocktail renaissance? (Rhetorical question, that.) What you enjoy now is in no small part due to the efforts of Seattle&#39;s Murray Stenson, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cocktailchronicles.com\/2012\/10\/21\/help-murray-stenson\/\" target=\"_self\">he needs your help<\/a>.
