So many questions here: How does it compare to Jim Beam Rye, current 80-proof Old Overholt or Ri1 (or however the hell you&#39;re supposed to write that one?);<\/li>\n<li>And <a href=\"http:\/\/looka.gumbopages.com\/2012\/08\/22\/midsummer-menu-at-big-bar\/\" target=\"_self\">Chuck Taggart&#39;s selflessly comprehensive tasting of the new menu at Big Bar<\/a> not only discusses the Knob Creek rye a bit more, but makes me want to head to LA;<\/li>\n<li>Marshall Fawley&#39;s <a href=\"http:\/\/scofflawsden.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/17\/aarp\/\" target=\"_self\">writing for AARP<\/a> now, and gives us <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.aarp.org\/2012\/08\/19\/the-old-fashioneds-grandfather\/\" target=\"_self\">a good basic rundown on the Old-Fashioned<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Eater NY has come out with a list of <a href=\"http:\/\/ny.eater.com\/archives\/2012\/08\/drinks.php\" target=\"_self\">NYC&#39;s most iconic drinks<\/a>. (Okay, I get &quot;egg cream&quot;, but at Eleven Madison Park instead of Gem Spa or Ray&#39;s?)<\/li>\n<li>And Time Out NY names the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/bars\/50-best-new-york-bars\" target=\"_self\">50 best bars in New York<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>In case you didn&#39;t see Dave Arnold on &quot;Late Night with Jimmy Fallon&quot;, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com\/blogs\/2012\/07\/dave-arnold-of-booker-and-dax-makes-amazing-cocktails\/\" target=\"_self\">here you go<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>The drought is killing corn. <a href=\"http:\/\/spiritsjournal.klwines.com\/klwinescom-spirits-blog\/2012\/8\/1\/how-will-the-midwest-drought-affect-bourbon.html\" target=\"_self\" title=\"h\/t to Michael Dietsch for the links.\">Corn is used in bourbon<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/spiritsjournal.klwines.com\/klwinescom-spirits-blog\/2012\/8\/2\/more-on-the-midwest-corn-shortage.html\" target=\"_self\">Bourbon&#39;s gonna get more expensive<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Hey, <a href=\"http:\/\/caskstrength.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/20\/the-best-shots-youve-never-tried-a-book-i-wrote\/\" target=\"_self\">Andrew Bohrer wrote a book<\/a>! It&#39;s about shots, but <em>good<\/em>&#0160;ones;<\/li>\n<li>and Max Messier is launching <a href=\"http:\/\/bespokevermouths.com\/index.html\" target=\"_self\">Bespoke Vermouths<\/a> <em>and<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/bespokevermouths.com\/news--events.html\" target=\"_self\">wrote a book<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Brad Thomas Parsons, author of Bitters, tells us <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jamesbeard.org\/blog\/six-bitters-have-hand-summer\" target=\"_self\">the six bitters to have on hand this summer<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>and gorsh, I wish I had the night off and the money for this, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jamesbeard.org\/events\/celebration-bitters-091012\" target=\"_self\">this bitters-focused dinner<\/a>&#0160;Parsons is hosting at the James Beard House looks <em>amazing;<\/em><\/li>\n<li>I didn&#39;t make it to the Spirited Awards at Tales, but I loved<a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/lejitproductions\/videoss\" target=\"_self\"> the videos introducing each category<\/a>, made by <a href=\"http:\/\/lejitproductions.com\/\" target=\"_self\">Le JIT Productions<\/a>. The &quot;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IF6IPPGnIhk&amp;feature=plcp\" target=\"_self\">Best American Bartender<\/a>&quot; video had me in stitches, but check the others too, including &quot;<a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/46114193\" target=\"_self\">Sh*t Brand Ambassadors Say<\/a>&quot; and <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/45998165\" target=\"_self\">Dale DeGroff giving a young tyro some advice<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>That said, I&#39;m not sure the Swiss-Army-Knife-style <a href=\"http:\/\/uncrate.com\/stuff\/bar10der\/\" target=\"_self\">Bar10der gadget<\/a> is worth carrying;<\/li>\n<li>but the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.delish.com\/food\/recalls-reviews\/coca-cola-freestyle-machines-booze\" target=\"_self\">Coca-Cola Freestyle machines might get closer to the dream<\/a> (dream? really?) of a bartending robot.
