The Baltimore <em>Sun<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/weblogs.baltimoresun.com\/entertainment\/dining\/reviews\/blog\/2009\/08\/the_unprinted_cocktail_price.html\">thinks so<\/a>. For the record, so do I. (And any bar that has the gall to charge $12 for a Bacardi and Diet Coke &#8212; much less serve them &#8212; should be ashamed of itself.)<\/li>\n<li>Robert Simonson has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imbibemagazine.com\/Elements-Creme-Yvette\">a great article about Creme Yvette<\/a> in the new <em>Imbibe<\/em> magazine. Can&#39;t wait to see this stuff!<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anvilhouston.com\/\">Anvil<\/a> in Houston has a great bucket list of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8113718@N08\/3857165398\/sizes\/l\/\">100 Cocktails to Try Before You Die<\/a>, and it&#39;s been getting some attention. I&#39;m currently at 83 out of 100, and rapidly pursuing the rest. <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.houstonpress.com\/eating\/2009\/08\/anvils_100_list_cocktails_to_t.php\">Here&#39;s a nice Houston <em>Press<\/em> writeup<\/a> of the list&#8230;and the comments section is good for some eyebrow-raising reading.<\/li>\n<li>Another list worthy of your attention is the <a href=\"http:\/\/off-focus.com\/2009\/09\/04\/the-classic-25-drinks-every-bartender-should-know\/\">25 Cocktails Every Bartender Should Know<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barsmarts.com\/\">BarSmarts<\/a> (more on BarSmarts anon, but short version? It&#39;s cool. Check it out.) No commentary here, except for a hearty agreement and a fervent wish that more bartenders would know these before stepping behind the stick.<\/li>\n<li>B\u00e9n\u00e9dictine is looking for a signature cocktail, and the contest will be judged by the great David Wondrich (with the winning entry to be the subject of a writeup in <em>Esquire<\/em>, where Wondrich helms the drinks section.) I haven&#39;t found a website for the contest other than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Fecamp-France\/BENEDICTINER-Liqueur\/140280540305#\/note.php?note_id=243775030653&amp;ref=mf\">this Facebook page<\/a>, but are there really any readers of this site who aren&#39;t on that infernal time-sink yet anyway? Upshot: send your recipe and a description of what inspired you to alchemists@nikecomm.com by September 8.<\/li>\n<li>Speaking of David Wondrich, he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nola.com\/drink\/index.ssf\/2009\/08\/david_wondrich_dispels_sazerac.html\">dispels myths about the Sazerac<\/a> in the <em>Times-Picayune<\/em> (h\/t to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.looka.me\">Chuck<\/a>);<\/li>\n<li>Co-author <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.kosmonaut.net\/\">Kosmonaut<\/a> pointed me to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thekitchn.com\/thekitchn\/liquor\/straight-up-diy-cocktail-onions-044117\">this good-looking recipe for DIY cocktail onions<\/a>. Sounds good.
