Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It was absolutely killing me to not be able to attend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talesofthecocktail.com\/\">Tales of the Cocktail<\/a> this year. (Curse those pesky work commitments!) Even checking Twitter and looking around the various cocktail blogs was maddening, and reminded me of pressing my nose to the glass behind which all the cool kids were having fun without me.<\/p>\n<p>There were some good roundups of Tales <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/nation\/2009-07-12-cocktail-neworleans_N.htm\">from the <em>AP<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/network.nationalpost.com\/np\/blogs\/theappetizer\/archive\/2009\/07\/14\/five-things-we-learned-at-the-big-annual-cocktail-conference-in-new-orleans.aspx\">the <em>National Post<\/em><\/a>, and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/2009\/07\/13\/gin-vodka-cocktails-lifestyle-wine-food-bartenders.html\">Forbes<\/a><\/em> (to say nothing of the official and wildly comprehensive <a href=\"http:\/\/talesblog.com\/\">Tales Blog<\/a>.) And I should single out the New York <em>Times<\/em> for <a href=\"http:\/\/themoment.blogs.nytimes.com\/2009\/07\/15\/tales-of-a-cocktail-sampling-sazeracs-in-new-orleans\/\">a nice post focusing on Sazeracs<\/a> in New Orleans, NYC, and elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>But there&#39;s other news! And links to share!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/dinersjournal.blogs.nytimes.com\/2009\/07\/14\/a-cocktail-conference-for-new-york\/\">Manhattan is getting its own cocktail conference<\/a>!<\/li>\n<li>And <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcny.org\/sidebars\/1093.html\">a weekly &quot;speakeasy&quot; night<\/a> at the Museum of the City of New York! (The <em>Times<\/em> covers it <a href=\"http:\/\/cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com\/2009\/07\/14\/a-speakeasy-thats-not-so-secret\">here<\/a>, and provides some good background info + recipes.)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pixlee.net\/?page_id=151\">Rules for Bad Ass Cocktails<\/a>, from Sasha;<\/li>\n<li>a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/06\/24\/dining\/24guide.html?pagewanted=all\">Summer Drinks Bartending Guide<\/a>, from the <em>Times<\/em>. I think this may be the right evening for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/06\/24\/dining\/244grex.html?ref=dining\">Rye Rickey<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Why haven&#39;t I mentioned <a href=\"http:\/\/12secondcocktails.tumblr.com\/\">12 Second Cocktails<\/a> on here yet? Great idea, executed well. Come up with a recipe that&#39;ll pair well with cheese and impress the heavy-hitting judges (including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terrancebrennan.com\/\">Terrance Brennan<\/a>, <a href=\"\/2009\/05\/25\/hightech-cocktails-with-dave-arnold-and-nils-noren\/\">Dave Arnold<\/a>, and Cocktailians&#39; very own <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dsotrivia.com\/?page_id=2\">Tony Hightower<\/a>.)
