{"id":887,"date":"2008-02-01T09:41:00","date_gmt":"2008-02-01T09:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cocktailians.com\/2008\/02\/drinky-goodness.html"},"modified":"2008-02-01T09:41:00","modified_gmt":"2008-02-01T09:41:00","slug":"drinky-goodness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cocktailians.com\/?p=887","title":{"rendered":"Drinky Goodness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A quartet of links for your Friday perusal:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Finally, a use for vodka:&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seriouseats.com\/recipes\/2007\/11\/cooks-illustrated-foolproof-pie-dough-recipe.html\">in pie crusts<\/a>.&nbsp; (and I bet an Angostura-spiked apple pie would be yummy.)&nbsp; <small>(via <a href=\"http:\/\/dethroner.com\/2008\/01\/24\/secret-to-tender-pie-crusts-vodka\">Dethroner<\/a>.)<\/small><\/li>\n<li>Part of what I like about cocktail blogs is the experimentation &#8212; I hear about interesting things that I want to try just about every day.&nbsp; But perhaps even more usefully is finding out about failed experiments that, thankfully, I wouldn&#8217;t have to repeat.&nbsp; Case in point:&nbsp; Robert Simonson&#8217;s tryout of a <a href=\"http:\/\/offthepresses.blogspot.com\/2008\/01\/bad-experiment.html\">Red Moscow Mule<\/a> &#8212; yep, it sounded pretty good in theory to me too.&nbsp; And I&#8217;m glad that he tried it out, found it wanting, and warned me off it.&nbsp; I hope to not have to return the favor&#8230;but I probably&#8217;ll end up with my own failed experiment and send up a red flag;<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/motac.spaces.live.com\/blog\/cns!4EC640AAC91CB84E!390.entry\">second part of MOTAC Blog&#8217;s great post about the history of the Ramos Gin Fizz<\/a> (the first part can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/motac.spaces.live.com\/blog\/cns!4EC640AAC91CB84E!382.entry\">here<\/a>); and<\/li>\n<li>Most excitingly of all, I was <em>very<\/em> intrigued to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cocktailchronicles.com\/2008\/01\/28\/whos-bitter\/\">read in the Cocktail Chronicles about a brand-new company making bitters<\/a>.&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/bittermens.com\/\">Bittermens<\/a> is still working its way through the regulatory thicket &#8212; the ATF has strict rules that they have to follow in order to sell their bitters in places other than liquor stores &#8212; and hopes to be on sale by the summertime.&nbsp; I, for one, cannot wait to try <a href=\"http:\/\/bittermens.com\/the-bitters\/\">their concoctions<\/a> (the Xocolatl Mole bitters sound especially interesting, as do the Elemakule Tiki bitters), and I may just have to take myself out to Death &amp; Co., Milk &amp; Honey, or Little Branch sometime soon in order to sample them.&nbsp; As they say, stay tuned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A quartet of links for your Friday perusal: Finally, a use for vodka:&nbsp; in pie crusts.&nbsp; (and I bet an Angostura-spiked apple pie would be yummy.)&nbsp; (via Dethroner.)
