{"id":903,"date":"2008-01-26T22:35:43","date_gmt":"2008-01-26T22:35:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cocktailians.com\/2008\/01\/death-in-the-af.html"},"modified":"2008-01-26T22:35:43","modified_gmt":"2008-01-26T22:35:43","slug":"death-in-the-af","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cocktailians.com\/?p=903","title":{"rendered":"Death in the Afternoon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m getting ready to attend the <a href=\"http:\/\/edwardianball.com\/\">Edwardian Ball<\/a> this evening, and I found myself in the mood for a cocktail.<\/p>\n<p>But what?&nbsp; What would be the perfect cocktail for a night like this?<\/p>\n<p>My eyes scanned my liquor cabinet and I perused the contents of the fridge.&nbsp; Hmm.&nbsp; I had a bottle of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moet.com\/\">Mo\u00ebt<\/a> in the refrigerator.&nbsp; I had a bottle of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lafeeabsinthe.com\/\">La Fe\u00e9 absinthe<\/a> that I bought in Italy on my last trip there.&nbsp; An idea materialized.<\/p>\n<p>One of Ernest Hemingway&#8217;s favorite cocktails: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/01\/03\/dining\/03curi.html?_r=1&amp;oref=slogin\">Death in the Afternoon<\/a>.&nbsp; Perfect.<\/p>\n<p>1 oz. absinthe<br \/>5 oz. chilled champagne<\/p>\n<p>The absinthe gave the champagne a beautiful pale green milky color, reminiscent of springtime.&nbsp; On the nose, you smell the absinthe.&nbsp; It overpowers the champagne taste, but the champagne bubbles deliver the absinthe flavor to your tongue.&nbsp; It is quite delicious, and I feel like I should be sitting in a caf\u00e9 in Paris wearing a corset and watching a cabaret while flirting with artists and poets.&nbsp; But be warned; it&#8217;s quite strong, so sip slowly.&nbsp; Let the Green Fairy enchant you, but don&#8217;t succumb to her completely.<\/p>\n<p>Now, off to the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Great_American_Music_Hall\">Great American Music Hall<\/a> for an enchanted evening of Edwardian costume, performances, and Gorey stylings!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m getting ready to attend the Edwardian Ball this evening, and I found myself in the mood for a cocktail.
