{"id":945,"date":"2008-01-01T21:42:37","date_gmt":"2008-01-01T21:42:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cocktailians.com\/2008\/01\/the-twentieth-c.html"},"modified":"2008-01-01T21:42:37","modified_gmt":"2008-01-01T21:42:37","slug":"the-twentieth-c","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cocktailians.com\/?p=945","title":{"rendered":"The Twentieth Century Cocktail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I spent the early part of Christmas Eve at The Swizzle Stick Bar at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cafeadelaide.com\/\">Caf&eacute; Adelaide<\/a> in New Orleans, being very well taken care of by the Queen of New Orleans Cocktails, Lu Brow, along with her excellent bartenders Mike, Kevin and Tommy.  I began the evening with a most excellent <b>Sazerac<\/b>, continued with a superb <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cocktaildb.com\/recipe_detail?id=4514\"><b>Pegu Club<\/b><\/a> (in which the teaspoon of lime juice came from two muddled lime half-wedges, which was a neat idea) and finally this one, which I was very pleasantly surprised to see on The Swizzle Stick&#8217;s spectacular cocktail menu (even better than the last time I was in, unsurprisingly, given that Lu is the Queen and Ti and Lally, proprietors of the restaurant, are The Cocktail Chicks).  It&#8217;s a lovely, lovely drink, created in 1939 to commemorate <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Image:NYC_Hudson2.jpg\">Henry Dreyfus&#8217; gorgeously designed locomotive<\/a> that pulled the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/20th_Century_Limited\">20th Century Limited<\/a> between New York and Chicago.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/sazerac\/2152132101\/\" title=\"The Twentieth Century Cocktail by Chuck T., on Flickr\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2231\/2152132101_7902e67d84_m.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"232\" border=\"0\" vspace=\"15\" hspace=\"15\" alt=\"The Twentieth Century Cocktail\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p><b>The Twentieth Century Cocktail<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1-1\/2 ounces gin.<br \/>\n3\/4 ounce Lillet blanc.<br \/>\n3\/4 ounce fresh lemon juice.<br \/>\n1\/2 ounce white cr&egrave;me de cacao.<\/p>\n<p>Shake with cracked ice for 10-12 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
